The purpose of life is to remember who you really are. Not your personas. Not the roles you play, but Sat Nam, your true nature. As you remember more and more often (this is what Simran actually means) you see and hear the One in everyone. When you see God in all, then you understand that we are put here to take care of each other. Not, "I'm helping YOU," but rather us all helping and serving and inspiring and elevating each other. The tuk from Japji you quote means that without deep listening, without surrender, without a heart filled with love spontaneously responding in each moment.. without that, we are performing... going through the motions... "I'm helping YOU."

When we do the inner work, and dissolve away that which is not our True Identity (Sat Nam,) then we simply experience God serving God and God being served by God.
