If someone does have a broken Kara, a torn Turban or any of the 5K's which is broken or torn the best way out is to do "Jal Pravah" meaning depositing in a flowing river.
Do remember to utter, "WaheGuru WaheGuru" while depositing the Kara in a river where there is a continuous flow of water but not in a place where there is stagnant water-body.
